Introducing Johanna Reid
My journey and passion for health began while completing a Degree in Nursing and working in a variety of health care settings, such as in hospitals and medical practices in NZ. After spending a few years in Europe and living in The Netherlands I came back to NZ to complete my Diploma in Child and Family health, which allowed me to work as a Plunket Nurse in the Wellington Region. I then went on to have my three children, who went through a challenging time with their health, throwing me into searching for answers using nutrition and natural health. This led me into studying through the Naturopathic College of New Zealand, to complete my Advanced Diploma in Naturopathy and Nutrition. Since graduating I have trained as a GEMM (gut ecology and metabolic modulation) clinician, which enables me to deliver protocols to support gut and metabolic health. I am registered with the Naturopath and Medical Herbalist Association (NMHNZ), and the Clinical Nutrition Association.
About Naturopathy
The naturopath’s intention is to find the cause of a client’s complaint, to educate and empower them to understand their health manifestation and to support their presentation with a natural means of treatment. My practice ensures treatment is evidence-based, combining the art and science of medicine, using traditional forms of healing and modern scientific knowledge to prevent and treat illness.
Naturopathy is holistic and recognises that health and disease are the results of an intricate and intimate interplay of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, social, familial, and occupational factors. Failure to address all aspects relevant to a client’s pattern of health and disease, fundamentally ignores the complexity of the individual.

Naturopathy is gentle and supports and facilitates the body’s own natural ability to heal, it is non invasive and avoids the suppression of symptoms. Naturopathy understands the healing power of nature and that the body has its own intuitive and sophisticated mechanism of healing. As nature regenerates itself without the need for human intervention, so too does the human body.

A key strength of the naturopathic practice is the ability to offer longer consultations that enable and facilitate longer case taking, to identify key issues. Naturopathy recognises that everyone is treated as unique and thus no wellness plan is alike.

Naturopaths also have access to a wide range of practitioner only supplements, prescription only liquid herbs, and protocols to support health. We also have access to a wide range of testing to identify specific imbalances, such as hair tissue mineral analysis, adrenal testing, hormone testing, neurotransmitter testing, heavy metal testing and gut microbiome testing.
What does Naturopathy support?
Naturopathy is able to offer support for a wide range of health problems as it treats the underlying cause of the health concern. This includes conditions such as (but not limited to) diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, allergies, intolerances, eczema, acne, digestive disorders, constipation, anxiety, stress, fatigue, ADHD, autism, nutrient imbalances, reflux, low stomach acid, pcos, preconception support, mastitis, infertility, menopause, and fibrocystic breasts.
